Just an Anti-Phishing rant

Hey world! It's been a minute...

Today I received a couple phishing e-mails, like the one in the screenshot below (not that this is a first) and I decided to do something about it.

 

So.. I tried to find the report button on my email account. I couldn't! I could only mark the email as spam, but I could not report it.

Then I tried to inform the relevant bank and I was surprised to realize that the don't have a system for that... They only provide self-protection instructions.

So, I decided to escalate this... As the sender's domain was from inside EU (one of them was Germany actually) I decided to go and report it to the appropriate German authority.  I ended up in the Cybercrime page of BNK which also seems to only provide information and not have a report form (or email)...

To be honest, I found this sketchy site which seems to ask you to report spam email from Germany to them, but at best FSM seems as a volunteer organization and at worse it's a fraud itself.

Going forward, I check the EU aspect of this, but my search drove me to OLAF which is something like EU's internal affairs.... anyway, they ask you to visit Europol's site on the mater (also the bank had this link as well). 

So.. I went there.

Guess what!! Europol just instructs you to contact your local authorities!!!

And we already know by now what is going on in Germany, is there any chance it's better in Greece ??

Well.. you guessed that right: Of course there is no way other than actually calling the police. And of course I will not spend the phone operator's and the duty officers' valuable time for a phishing email of which I'm not a victim... There should be a separate second line service for that... 

In the end I quit, I just reported the domains to Google and Microsoft, to make sure the domain's existence will be blocked from practically any browser but that's not the way. It is not the responsibility of corporations to protect the public... It's the responsibility of the states.

Why is it so difficult for EU to have a centralized service to protect the public proactively by shutting down those sites? Or at least for each country to have one ? 

Just by searching "Report Phishing" in Google I can easily find:

1) USA's CISA

2) Google's safebrowsing page 

3) UK's report-a-scam NCSC

4) Microoft's  support page

So, it seems to be easy for US (a big federal country - comparable to what EU wants to be) and UK (a medium sized country, not bigger or richer than Germany).

Pretty sure that if I managed to search in different languages I would find options to report spam in countries even smaller than Greece actually.... But why is it so difficult for EU countries ?

ERT shut down is against democracy and national identity of Greeks

After composing a furious thread in Greek, I want to write another, this time for every one of you, who are not Greeks, who don't really care about our problems but maybe, just maybe, this one is too much.

Yesterday, the Greek Government through the Prime Minister announced that ERT is to be shut down, and it so did, during the same day! (wow, that's really efficient from our Public Officers!)

Shuting ERT down, is dangerous for the country. It was certain that it would cause political instability and it did. It is absolutely certain that this political instability will keep on without a Public News Channel. 

It is illegal, and an action against the country and the nation to disrupt the operation of non profiting News Organisation that belongs to the PEOPLE.
What's next? Hospitals? Schools? Public Transport for sure.. 

Greeks are a nation that half of the population lives in Greece and the other half is in diaspora. In USA, UK, Germany, Australia, etc. These people need the public television satellite channel just so they won't loose their national identity.

At the same time, shutting ERT down, means that everybody in Greece stops having access to every major national news channel of other countries!

Some days before the Government tried to stop the transmission of Euronews in Greek. Why??

Turkish Provocations Once Again.

Once again, Turkey is showing it's real will by invading Greek Territorial Waters.

Yesterday, November 15th, was the black anniversary from the unilateral declaration of independence of the illegal state of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, in the Occupied lands of Cyprus Republic! There was even a peaceful protest of the UK Cyprus Students Union METOPO, in London.

And yet, they chose this particular day, to provoke once again. Early yesterday, the ship Malene Ostervold, of Turkish Interest and under Norway Flag, entered the Greek Territorial Waters, in the area of Kastelorizo, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, escorted by the Turkish frigate Gediz. The Greek patrol ship, a gunboat called Polemistis (Warrior), informed the captain of the ship for the Illegal action, and in the meanwhile the Greek Secretary of State informed the Norwegian Government about the incident.

The ship was instructed by both the Gunboat Polemistis and the Government of Norway to leave the area, though it has not yet moved, claiming a mechanical failure, whilst the Turkish Frigate is acting offensive manoeuvres against the Greek patrol Gunboat. Now, after more than 30 hours the incident has not been cleared yet.

So, that's the country we want in the European Union?

Stupid cliques get created simply to insult and cause trouble (translated from “τραμπούκος”, insulting troublemaker, “τραμπουκίζω”, cause insult & trouble) through either words or IRC channel banning people who are not considered, by them or their flunkies, worthy of their knowlege and their image.

Some others, the 1337 (leet, elite) of the “scene”, only chat over cups of coffee and don’t do anything practical, as they are good at gossiping…but of “security”…what is that? we are 2600…don’t mess with us.

Stop salivating and licking and start keyboarding! But, of course, criticising is easy especially when you have many 20year-olds around whispering “2600″-”2600″. Get yourselves in insomnia.gr and start gossiping (litteral translation of “θάβετε με μεγάλο φτυάρι”, burrying people through gossiping with a big shovel)…But it will also bear the seal of GST.

We are everywhere…because unlike you we don’t spend our nights writing songs or “rapping” away in public squares…nor do we laugh at what we cannot touch…

We don’t publicly expose you (translated from “ξεβρακώνουμε”, pulling your underpants down, Greek expression) because we don’t want to see you all running like mad and naked trying to find a hiding place and because we are not like you. You should, however, expect the response when you were laughing at things you had never considered doing…but we have spent enough time dealing with a bunch of schoolkids who learned about hacking through Hollywood movies and their dumb American culture of the neo-geek who reads hacking magazines while trying to crack his girlfriend’s e-mail account to see if she’s being unfaithful and has Linux on dual-boot to pose (translated from “ψαρώνει”, Greek expression) to his mates who also read neo-hacking mania-inspired magazines.

The entire Greek Internet is riddled with holes…some of the biggest government sites don’t even know the term “security”…since they assign the design of their sites to irrelevant companies.

We salute the real hobbyists and the fanciers of the art of computers. Some old ones who stopped because they were bored and tired not with this art but with the stuck-up attitude (translated from “κόμπλεξ”) of all those “specialists” in the field!! And the young ones who don’t say many words but work with their heads down because what they care about is knowledge, and only knowledge!!

Dear CERN admins we patched the biggest BUG in your webpage so it doesn’t turn into a Dork and gets defaced every day with the silliness of every wannabe hacker.

Don’t try to find us…We will find you…pretty soon!!!

Greek Hacking at CERN

Because of the experiment that is taking place in CERN's LHC, all the world was wired in European Organization 's for Nuclear Technology web network on Wednesday 10th September 2008. So a team of Greek Hackers, who call themselves GST (Greek Security Team) hacked into the CERN's CMS, proving that it was doable for someone to obtain access to the network.

The team uploaded a statement in the webpage http://smsmon.cern.ch/zrwan/apanthsh/html from where the text has now been unpinned, but a screenshot of this announcement is open to the Internet.

From the attack there was no severe harm done, apart from a server's file which was destroyed, but it was a scary experience according to the Organization's Scientists, as from what they reported, if the team gained access to a second computer attached to the network they could obtain control of some of the LHC's components and maybe cause a severe damage.

Though, according to James Gilles, the attack was quickly noticed and the announcement soon went down.

It is also important to say, that the team made no political statement, but they just fired against other hacker teams and the Greek teenagers. They also report in their text that they corrected a network bug to avoid CERN's Network become a dork of every "wannabe hacker" and the fact that they did not intent to harm the Organization or it's network. Ελληνικό Hacking στο CERN

Εν όψει του πειράματος στον LHC, και καθώς τα βλέμματα ήταν στραμμένα στο δίκτυο του Πανευρωπαϊκού Κέντρου Πυρηνικών Ερευνών, μια ομάδα Ελλήνων Hackers, αυτοαποκαλούμενη GST(Greek Security Team) χάκεψε το CMS του CERN, αποδεικνύοντας ότι μπορεί κάποιος να αποκτήσει πρόσβαση.
Το κείμενο ανέβηκε στη διεύθυνση: http://cmsmon.cern.ch/zrwan/apanthsh.html απ΄όπου τώρα έχει, βέβαια κατέβει, όμως ένα screenshot της ανακοίνωσης κυκλοφορεί στο διαδίκτυο.
Από την επίθεση δεν έγινε κάποια ζημιά, πέρα από ένα αρχείο του server το οποίο καταστράφηκε, αλλά αρκετοί από τους επιστήμονες του Οργανισμού, ανέφεραν πως ήταν ιδιαίτερα τρομακτική εμπειρία, μια και αν η ομάδα χάκευε και δεύτερο υπολογιστή ο οποίος ήταν συνδεδεμένος με το server θα μπορούσε να έχει πρόσβαση στη λειτουργία του επιταχυντή προκαλώντας πιθανώς κάποια σοβαρή ζημιά.
Πάντως σύμφωνα με τον υπεύθυνο PR του Κέντρου James Gilles, η επίθεση έγινε γρήγορα αντιληπτή και εύκολα κατέβηκε η ανακοίνωση από το server.

Αξίζει πάντως να σημειωθεί πως οι "δράστες" δεν έκαναν κάποια πολιτική ανακοίνωση, απλώς τα έβαλαν με ομάδες νεαρών καθώς και άλλες ομάδες Hackers και χαρακτηριστικά αναφέρουν πως διόρθωσαν και κάποιο bug του δικτύου έτσι ώστε να μην καταστραφεί η σελίδα του CERN από αλλεπάλληλα hackings. Άνθρωποι.

Κάθομαι στην ταράτσα, αγναντεύοντας την Αθήνα. Τί έχουμε φτιάξει; Τί έχουμε καταφέρει; Και γιατί;

Μπροστά μου βλέπω τον Υμηττό, κι ώς εκεί στις παρυφές του βουνού, κτήρια. Πυκνά γκρίζα κτήρια. Στα αριστερά μου, η Πεντέλη, κι ως εκεί, πυκνά γκρίζα κτήρια. Λίγο πράσινο στα όρια του τετραγώνου, όχι παραπάνω. Δε βλέπω αν συνεχίζει έτσι μέχρι τους πρόποδες του βουνού, μια και τα ψηλά κτήρια μου τους κρύβουν. Βλέπω όμως οικισμούς έως αρκετά ψηλά: Μελίσσια, Δήμος Πεντέλης κ.ά. Όχι βέβαια πως δεν ξέρω ότι πράγματι φτάνουν οι δήμοι κι οικισμοί, όχι μόνο μέχρι τους πρόποδες, αλλά και από την άλλη πλευρά της Πεντέλης.

Στα δεξιά πάλι; Ίσως να έβλεπα την Πάρνηθα, αν δε μου την έκρυβαν ψηλότερα κτήρια, σαν το The Mall Athens παραδείγματος χάριν. Φαίνεται μονάχα η κορυφή της, τόσο όσο χρειάζεται για να μπορέσω πέρυσι να παρακολουθήσω τη μανία της πυρκαγιάς που κατέκαψε το δρυμό. Κατηγορούμε το καζίνο; Ευτυχώς που ήταν αυτό, με τα ασφαλισμένα εκατομμύρια, να το προσέξουν, να ταμπουρωθούν εκεί, να μην καεί η Πάρνηθα ολόκληρη. Τί να κάνουμε; Έτσι είναι η ανθρώπινη απληστία, μονάχα με κυνισμό αντιμετωπίζεται. Έχει κάπως καλύτερη θέα όμως, οφείλω να ομολογήσω. Αρκετό πράσινο, σημαντικά περισσότερο, στα κοντινά τετράγωνα. Περνάν οι γραμμές του ΗΣΑΠ από το επόμενο τετράγωνο, κι ως εκ τούτου δεν μπόρεσαν να χτίσουν και πολλά! Κάτι όμορφο, και πατριωτικό, σε μια εποχή που ο εθνικισμός είναι ντεμοντέ, ασχέτως αν είναι υγιής ή στα όρια του εθνισμού, κυματίζει σε μία ταράτσα, μια μεγάλη, Ελληνική Σημαία.

Πίσω μου; Πίσω μου δε βλέπω τίποτα. Έναν τοίχο, της δικής μου ταράτσας, έτσι όπως είμαι καθιστός, έναν τοίχο της επόμενης, ψηλότερης, πολυκατοικίας, αν σηκωθώ. Πίσω τα κτήρια είναι ψηλότερα. Ο συντελεστής είναι μεγαλύτερος, το ύψωμα αυξάνει την απόσταση του εδάφους από το επίπεδο της θάλασσας. Ό,τι ακριβώς κάνει η δική μου πολυκατοικία στις μπροστινές κοντύτερες και χαμηλότερές της δηλαδή. Κρύβει τα πάντα.

Βλέπω κι ένα Luna Park όμως, τα γνωστά Αηδονάκια. Πού βρίσκεται; Στη διασταύρωση της Λεωφόρου Κηφισίας, με την Αττική Οδό. Δρόμοι, δρόμοι, δρόμοι... Για να κινούμαστε ανάμεσα στα γκρίζα, σήμερα, δημιουργήματά μας. Για να κινούμαστε, καταστρέφοντας με κάθε τρόπο τον πλανήτη μας, στην τσιμεντένια μεγαλούπολή μας.

Δε φαίνονται από εδώ που κάθομαι, μα είναι σίγουρο. Όπου κι αν στρέψω το βλέμμα μου θα δω πράγματα για τα οποία θα έπρεπε να νιώθουμε αποστροφή: Ναρκωτικά, βία, μίση, απάτες, καυσαέριο, σκουπίδια, μόλυνση. Σε μία πόλη σαν την Αθήνα όλα αυτά είναι καθημερινό φαινόμενο. Ο θάνατος από 21 μαχαιριές του δημοφιλή, ή μάλλον διάσημου, ηθοποιού Νίκου Σεργιανόπουλου, απασχόλησε το ενδιαφέρον της κοινής γνώμης για μέρες ολόκληρες, ίσως εβδομάδες.

Ο θάνατος όμως, του άσημου νεαρού από το Παγκράτι, λόγω υπερβολικής δόσης, δεν είναι καν κάτι που θα μπορούσε να ειπωθεί στο νυχτερινό δελτίο ειδήσεων. Είναι ένα φαινόμενο καθημερινό, ένα φαινόμενο που κανέναν δεν εντυπωσιάζει και που οι επαναλήψεις του είναι τόσες, μέσα στις 24 ώρες της ημέρας, ώστε θα ήταν αδύνατον να ενημερώνεται ο κόσμος κάθε φορά γι΄ αυτό.
Τα τροχαία, στην Εθνική οδό, κάθε Πάσχα, Χριστούγεννα ή άλλη μεγάλη γιορτή, απασχολούν άπαντες, αντιθέτως με αυτά εντός των «τειχών» της πόλης. Όπως και το σχόλιο πως «αυτή θα είναι η μεγαλύτερη έξοδος των Αθηναίων». Τι υποκρισία! Μα λογικό δεν είναι να είναι η μεγαλύτερη; Αφού τα αυτοκίνητα πληθαίνουν! Πληθαίνουν γιατί είμαστε ανίκανοι να περπατήσουμε! Και πώς να το κάνουμε; Μένω στο Μαρούσι, σπούδαζα στη Ζωγράφου, δουλεύω στο Κρυονέρι! Κάναμε, μόνοι μας, τις αποστάσεις τεράστιες!

Στα πλαίσια της άνεσης, της τεχνολογίας, των μεγαλύτερων δυνατοτήτων δημιουργήσαμε έναν κόσμο που δε μας μένει τελικά χρόνος να απολαύσουμε όλα αυτά που μας παρέχεται η τεχνολογική δυνατότητα να έχουμε. Ακόμη και τα αυτοκίνητα μπορούσαν να είναι διασκέδαση. Τώρα, που τα γράφω αυτά, ένα Korando, πέρασε ταχύτατα ντριφτάροντας μέσα από το πάρκο, εδώ δίπλα, αδιαφορώντας για τη σκόνη που σηκώνει δυσκολεύοντας την ανάσα μας. Αδιαφορώντας ακόμη και για την περίπτωση να πέρναγε ένας πεζός, ό,τι λογικότερο να συναντήσεις σ΄ ένα τέτοιο χώρο. Γιατί τα λέω αυτά; Είμαι καλύτερος; Όχι! Κάθομαι εδώ και γράφω, γιατί η βενζίνη έχει φτάσει στο 1 Ευρώ και 30 λεπτά! Αλλιώς, θα είχα πάρει τ΄ αυτοκίνητο, και θα είχα ξεκινήσει για μια βόλτα προς τη Μαλακάσα μέσω Πάρνηθας! Το έχετε κάνει ποτέ; Είναι ένας υπέροχος, βουνίσιος δρόμος! Ίσως μία από τις ομορφότερες εντός Αθηνών διαδρομές! Θυμίζει κάτι από τις πλαγιές του Ταϋγέτου, του Ψηλορείτη, ή του Κίσαβου. Κανένα απ΄ αυτά βέβαια δεν μπορεί να με γεμίσει προσωπικά, όσο ένα καφεδάκι στο κεντρικό καφενείο, στις Πλάτρες του Τροόδους, στην πατρίδα μου, την Κύπρο. Τη διχοτομημένη πατρίδα μου, για την οποία οι σημερινοί πολιτικοί έχουν πάψει να ενδιαφέρονται. Τους γλύκανε το χρήμα. Το χρήμα του εμπορίου, από τις επενδυτικές ευκαιρίες στη γείτονα, το χρήμα της μίζας, από τα πετρελαϊκά λόμπυ και συμφέροντα, και άλλα πολλά!

Κινδυνεύω να γίνω κουραστικός, και το γνωρίζω. Αυτό άλλωστε ήταν εγνωσμένο από την αρχή. Κουραζόμαστε όταν μας λεν αλήθειες που δεν έχουμε διάθεση να αλλάξουμε! Δεν πήρα, είπα, το αυτοκίνητο, γιατί ακρίβυνε η βενζίνη! Αλήθεια, πώς ακρίβυνε; Έχει φτάσει 160 δολάρια το βαρέλι, ή ακόμη; Χμ… και τι ακριβώς είναι 160 δολάρια; Μήπως είναι 100 Ευρώ; Μήπως αυτό κάνει το αργό πετρέλαιο φθηνότερο σε σχέση με πρόπερσι; Μήπως κάποιος μας κλέβει; Ένα μυστήριο εύκολο να λυθεί.

Αλλά σε κάθε περίπτωση, καλά κάνουν και μας κλέβουν! Ποίος φταίει που εμείς επιλέγουμε να στηριζόμαστε στο πετρέλαιο;; Το παράγουμε στο χωράφι μας και δεν τό ΄ξερα; Θα μπορούσαμε, αν το πετρέλαιο κι η βενζίνη που καταναλώνουμε, προέρχονταν από βιομάζα. Από φυτά δηλαδή σε καλλιέργειες βιοκαυσίμων, από σκουπίδια κ.ά. Είναι κάτι καλύτερο αυτό; Μονάχα, λίγο, αν και ακόμη ακριβότερο. Τι μπορούμε να κάνουμε; Γιατί Ελλάδα, με τον τόσο σου Ήλιο (που μόλις έδυσε παρεμπιπτόντως) δεν εκμεταλλεύεσαι τη φωτοβολταϊκή ενέργεια; Γιατί Ελλάδα με τους τόσους Ανέμους, δεν εκμεταλλεύεσαι τη δύναμη του Αιόλου; Γιατί δεν ξέρουμε καν, οι περισσότεροι, τι είναι οι Ανανεώσιμες Πηγές Ενέργειας; Και τι είναι, οι Εναλλακτικές Πηγές Ενέργειας; Είχα χθες μία συζήτηση, και κατάλαβα, πως υπάρχει ακόμη κόσμος που θεωρεί φωτοβολταϊκά, την τεχνολογία του Ηλιακού Θερμοσίφωνα!!

Ξέρετε γιατί δε θα πάμε μπροστά ποτέ; Όχι ως χώρα κι ως λαός! Δεν είμαι της αντίληψης πως οι άλλοι είναι καλύτεροι. Ως ανθρωπότητα, γιατί είμαστε καταδικασμένοι στη μοίρα μας; Γιατί πολύ απλά, είμαστε άπληστοι. Ό,τι θέλω, τώρα το θέλω. Έχω ανάγκη σήμερα, από έναν άνθρωπο για στήριγμα; Θα το αναζητήσω. Στην ανάγκη, δίνοντας ψευδείς δηλώσεις. Πόσες φορές δεν έχουμε κάνει κάποιον άλλο να νιώσει σημαντικός για μας, μόνο και μόνο γιατί έχουμε ανάγκη από συμπαράσταση εκείνη τη στιγμή; Πόσες φορές δεν έχουμε παραστήσει πως νοιαζόμαστε για τα προβλήματα κάποιου άλλου, απλά γιατί θέλουμε αυτός ο άλλος να μας βοηθήσει να λύσουμε τα δικά μας; Και τι κάνουμε όταν πετύχουμε το σκοπό μας; Ό,τι ξέρουμε καλύτερα! Τα σκουπίδια στον κάδο! Κι η σημερινή κοινωνία, έχει πολύ σκουπίδι βρε παιδί μου! Πολύ σκουπίδι!

Απληστία, το μεγαλύτερο ελάττωμα του ανθρώπου! Ο παράγοντας, που έχει καταδικάσει τον κομμουνισμό, το μόνο ίσως, πολίτευμα που αποζητά την ισότητα όλων. Μια και ίσοι, ποτέ δε θα είμαστε, η απληστία οδηγεί τους έχοντες την εξουσία, στην καταπίεση των υπολοίπων. Με σκοπό, τί άλλο φυσικά; Το Κέρδος! Είτε αυτό λέγεται, μίζα, μισθός, έσοδα από τις επενδύσεις.

Όλους και πάντοτε τα κέρδη μας ενδιαφέρουν. Κι ας ψευδόμαστε υπέρ του αντιθέτου. Κι ας προσπαθούμε να νιώσουμε καλά, ως τίμιοι κι αλτρουιστές, τα κέρδη μας νοιάζουν και μόνο αυτά! Κέρδη φανερά, ή κρυφά! Ξέρετε ποίο είναι το εγωιστικότερο όλων των συναισθημάτων; Η ερωτική αγάπη! Αυτή που θεωρούμε ως ό,τι καλύτερο έχουμε να προσφέρουμε, που μας κάνει να διαφέρουμε απ΄ τα «ρομπότ» είναι, στην πραγματικότητα, ό,τι χειρότερο έχουμε. Γιατί προκαλεί απαιτήσεις. Στον έρωτα και στον πόλεμο όλα επιτρέπονται δε λέμε; Ποίος είναι ο σκοπός του πολέμου; Το κέρδος! Του έρωτα; Μήπως η ανάγκη μας να νιώσει καλά ο αγαπημένος μας; Μα όχι φυσικά! Είναι η ανάγκη μας να νιώσει καλά ο αγαπημένος μας μέσω ημών! Γιατί ειδικά μέσω ημών; Μα είναι απλό! Γιατί έτσι θα νιώσουμε εμείς οι ίδιοι καλά! Εγωιστικό είν΄ το κίνητρο.

Πόσες φορές κάνατε κάτι καλό και προσπαθήσατε να το κρύψετε απ΄ τους πάντες; Κι αυτό, όχι από ντροπή. Τόσες λοιπόν, είναι οι φορές που φανήκατε πραγματικά αλτρουιστές! Για μένα, αυτός ο αριθμός, πάντως, είναι καμία!

Συμπέρασμα; Ένας κόσμος, γεμάτος ρόδες, καυσαέρια, κι ανθρώπους αλαφιασμένους, να τρέχουν πανικόβλητοι. Ένας κόσμος μολυσμένος, άσχημος αισθητικά, άχρηστος πραγματικά. Είναι άλλωστε γνωστό και το παράδειγμα του παγκοσμίου κλάσεως βιολιστή, πριν κάποιους μήνες στη Ν. Υόρκη. Πόσοι κατάλαβαν ποίος είναι; Κανένας φυσικά! Πόσοι έκατσαν να τον ακούσουν; Ε-Λ-Α-Χ-Ι-Σ-Τ-Ο-Ι.

Ας προσπαθήσουμε να αναγνωρίσουμε. Να πάψουμε να είμαστε αχάριστοι. Στους γύρω, συνανθρώπους μας, αλλά και στον πλανήτη μας. Ένα κείμενο παράξενο, μια κι αμφιβάλλω αν έχετε ποτέ σκεφτεί να συνδυάσετε την αισθηματική σας ζωή με την ανάγκη για ένα υγιεινότερο κόσμο, από πλευράς περιβάλλοντος, χρόνου κ.ά. Μα ένα κείμενο αληθινό, αφού τελικά, αν το καλοσκεφτούμε, τα τρία αίτια που μας ωθούν σε όλες τις ανεξαρτήτως είδους ζημιές, ηθικές βλακείες, και κυρίως καταστροφές, είναι κοινά: Εγωισμός – Απληστία – Αχαριστία.

You know, the phrase "Only that they did not celebrated" ??? Well... the celebrated the goal, live on TV!!! Unconcealed with no shame at all!

Greece on fire!

The last four days (23-26 August 2007) we are watching a tragedy taking place in Greece. The whole country is on fire. From yesterday afternoon all the areas of Greece have been declared in emergency condition. The fire department are making their best but obviously this is not enough. When a new fire starts every 15 minutes, which state could be capable enough to overpass the problems? Think how Greece with its known problems, such as lack of organization, could do the job! Obviously it cannot.

According with the evidence these fires are results of arsons! This means that someone willingly causes this condition, which yesterday(25 August 2007) costed 52 peoples' lives, destroyed properties, forests, and whatever else the fire found on its way, and brought the whole country in a state of bereavement! New nucleus are starting everywhere and the F.D. is unable to react. Some countries (Cyprus, France and Italy) have sent help, a gesture that becomes more important if we take in mind that the Italians and the French are still suffering from their one fires and that in Cyprus the temperature is still 40°C which makes the condition there also feared every day.

I will not refer to the fires that burn the country this exact moment as there is no point, it is impossible to mention every one fire centre in the country. Yesterday by that time there where 129 fires and by night some of them where off while a lot more started. This moment, same as yesterday the whole Peloponnese is on fire (yesterday 2/3 of it where burned down, now the rest of it), and so do Evoia, Aitoloakarnania, even Attica (Layrio, Keratea, Markopoulo) and yesterday for once again there where fires even in Athens on Ymittos and Penteli .

Really the description of the freaking scenes that our fellow citizens are living is pointless. I do not know what we can do, but certainly what we cannot do is to sit back and argue in order to gain some personal gains. This is obviously a plan well studied and absolutely organized. It cannot be a coincidence that fires start all over Greece between 20.00 at night and 02.00 in the morning! This fires cannot be just actions of paranoiac fire maniacs. It is organized crime. Even the F.D. chief of Italy mentioned yesterday that such a frequency of fires and such a catastrophe as the one that happened yesterday in Peloponnese has never happened again anywhere in the world.
It is possible that the purposes are political as a similar situation happened in '81 when the two strong political parties where in the same positions. On the other hand everyone has it's cut of responsibilities and of course so do the Goverment.
There is also another worse scenario, that this is a new kind of war. The natural wealth of the country has been destroyed with direct short or long term effects on the tourism of the country. The agriculture is destroyed and even the industry is incapable to work. The power is sometimes cut in the country towns so that the Power Network will not suffer a permanent failure, and this, it is obvious even to an ignorant, will result to an economic paralysis of the country. In the same time, the fire causes refuges, destroys properties, leaves death behind. The willingness of the people is going down and also the treatment of all that will be one more expense for one already suffering country. And the worst? With the egocentric politicians of our country and the political parties that with the elections closing it is sure that they already try to manipulate the situation for their profit there is chaos created in the politics of the country and the people are severely divided.
Really... Can You think of a war which could cause worst catastrophe to a country? Unfortunately I am afraid that this is a new kind of war.

And the TV channels may insist to talk about arson suspicions and organized crime! Who economic criminal would do something that would not result in economic profit? Because now in Greece none is gaining money. Or who terrorist (political criminal) would cause this huge catastrophe without informing their identity or declaring their stances?

Honestly I do not know what can be done to stop this disaster, but even worse I have no idea what we will do at the end of the day, when the size of the catastrophe will have to be evaluated. Maybe it is the darkest page in Greek history, as it is not only properties, or loosing a war but the environment also has payed a huge cost.
